Sugar Cube sits on Dunmore Street in the quiet heart of Dunmore Town — Harbour Island’s historic village — tucked behind a white picket fence and a tangle of tropical foliage. From the street you’d barely know it’s there. Inside, it’s a private art collection that happens to have a bed.
THE SPACE
The ground floor is one open room: a long farm table with bentwood chairs anchors the dining area, while a built-in L-shaped daybed sofa (dressed in navy fabric with a pile of cushions) wraps around a low coffee table in the living nook. Every inch of wall space is hung with original work — Bahamian photography, colorful paintings, charcoal drawings, and framed prints stacked salon-style from floor to ceiling. A rattan pendant light hangs over the table. The kitchen runs along the back wall beneath the stairs, with drawer-front white cabinetry, a butcher-block counter, open shelving stacked with blue-and-white pottery, and a full-size refrigerator. Everything is compact and considered.
Upstairs, the A-frame loft bedroom opens up under exposed white-painted wooden beams. A king bed sits on wide-plank hardwood floors, flanked by a vintage settee, a low coffee table, and a painted wooden armoire. The sloped roofline, small lace-curtained windows, and warm bedside lighting give it a cozy, tucked-in feel — the kind of room that makes you want to stay in it. A mini-split keeps it cool.
The bathroom off the loft is a highlight on its own: an open walk-in shower tiled floor-to-ceiling in a sage-and-cream checkerboard cement pattern, a vessel sink on a warm pine vanity with a brass gooseneck faucet, and a round rattan mirror. A sculptural orange pendant light completes it.
On the ground floor, tucked behind the living area, is a narrow second sleeping room with a twin bed, a small bistro table, and its own en-suite bathroom with patterned yellow tile floors and a shower. It works well for a child or a third adult who wants their own space.

LOCATION
Harbour Island is one of the smallest and most distinctive islands in the Bahamas — three miles long, known for its famous Pink Sand Beach, its pastel-painted colonial cottages, and a village that runs almost entirely on golf carts. Sugar Cube is on Dunmore Street, the main road through Dunmore Town, within a short walk of the island’s restaurants, boutiques, and the water taxi to North Eleuthera. Pink Sand Beach is an 8-minute walk.
